Once incarcerated for stealing his best friend’s mobile phone, Haridas has since transformed his life for better, and today he counsels youngsters in prisons to give them a hopeful future.

Haridas ran away from his native place in Tiruvannamalai and got involved in petty crimes. He avoided attending school and fell into bad company. He was eventually caught and spent three years in a detention home. This incident changed his life, and the time spent in detention compelled him to take a hard look at his situation.

Now at 28, Haridas helps youngsters in government observation homes, special rehab centers, and protective shelters across the state through mental counseling, guiding them towards rehabilitation.

Over the last three years, he has counseled more than two thousand youngsters, and none have returned to their previous lives of crime.

Haridas provides counseling to first-time offenders and tries to understand their feelings, thoughts, and vulnerabilities. By encouraging them and providing emotional support, he helps them reflect on their past experiences and demonstrates steps and methods to improve their lives.

The main ingredients are love and kindness, Haridas shares. Youngsters in detention centers come from disturbed homes and need love and understanding. Counseling helps them unleash their thoughts and emotions healthily and makes them feel understood by others.

Haridas stresses the importance of mental health struggles and says that necessary treatment and therapy can help people overcome social anxiety, fear, and depression.

Haridas has helped many youngsters get a fresh start in life and move forward confidently towards the future.

He was undeterred by his past experiences and used them as stepping stones to reform the lives of other youngsters.
